Listen, Listen...forget Tuscany for a second, forget Piedmont, I mean these places are great and we've gone more than a few times here at Porron Cellars, but let me tell you why we need to pack our bags and head to Abruzzo. Seriously, this place is like Italy’s best-kept secret for wine lovers (and anyone who just likes a little dolce vita with fewer crowds).
First off, Abruzzo is gorgeous. We’re talking dramatic mountains on one side, the Adriatic Sea on the other, and rolling vineyards tucked in between. You could literally sip wine while looking at snow-capped peaks and then drive 30 minutes to eat fresh seafood on the coast. How dreamy is that?
Wine? No shortages there. Abruzzo is all about Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, that bold, juicy red that’s smooth enough for pizza night but also structured enough to impress when you bring it to dinner. And if you like white wine, we won’t skip Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, it’s crisp, citrusy, it is basically sunshine in a glass. Oh, we may even find ourselves sipping on Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, the region’s unique rosé, you’re in for a treat. It’s a little darker, a little richer than your typical rosé, but still super refreshing.
The best part? The wineries here are ridiculously welcoming. Many are family-run, and you’ll often meet the actual winemaker pouring your glass, telling you stories about their vineyards, and probably trying to feed you a homemade plate of pasta. There’s this vibe in Abruzzo that’s so warm and unpretentious. No need to know every tasting note to feel right at home.
And let’s be honest: Abruzzo is way easier on the wallet than some of the “big name” wine regions. The wines are affordable, the food is incredible, and you’ll feel like you’re discovering Italy without the tourist hustle. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, linger over lunch, and really soak up all the beauty.
So, friends, here’s the deal: next time you’re planning a wine trip, skip the crowded hotspots and go for Abruzzo. You’ll drink amazing wine, eat your weight in pasta, and feel like you’ve stumbled upon a hidden gem. This weekend we will bring Abruzzo to you with style here at Porron Cellars. Let's travel together and discover Abruzzo!
